METHOD FOR PRODUCING (S)-(+)-5-AMINO-4-HYDROXYPENTANOIC ACID AND (S)-(+)-gamma-AMINOMETHYL-gamma-BUTYROLACTONE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing (S)-(+)-5-amino-4-hydroxypentanoic acid and (S)-(+)-γ-aminomethyl-γ-butyrolactone, by which the (S)-(+)-5-amino-4- hydroxypentanoic acid and the (S)-(+)-γ-aminomethyl-γ-butyrolactone can efficiently be produced from 5-amino levulinic acid as a raw material by a simple three step reaction advantageous for mass production. SOLUTION: This method for producing the (S)-(+)-5-amino-4- hydroxypentanoic acid and the (S)-(+)-γ-aminomethyl-γ-butyrolactone comprises asymmetrically reducing a compound represented by general formula (1) (R is a hydrocarbon group, aralkyloxy, or alkoxy which may have one or more substituents) in the presence of a yeast cell to obtain a compound represented by general formula (2) or (3) and then hydrolyzing or catalytically reducing the obtained compound of formula (2) or (3).
