PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for detecting a strip-shaped continuous body in which carriage thereof can be detected finely by reading out the strip-shaped continuous body being carried on a carrying passage by means of an optical secondary sensor. SOLUTION: The mechanism for detecting a strip-shaped continuous body comprises a supply shaft 34 for feeding a fixed strip-shaped continuous body 48 to the side of a print section 40 in the downstream, a print section 40 for applying a desired print on the strip-shaped continuous body 48, a carrying passage 60 of the continuous body 48 formed between the supply shaft 34 and the print section 40, and a detector 4 disposed in the carrying passage 60 and comprising an optical two-dimensional sensor for detecting the continuous body 48.
