Apparatus for isolating spermatozoa from ejaculate (12b) comprises an annular trough (1), in which the ejaculate is placed, and a circular container (2) which is placed inside this. The central container is filled with nutrient solution (12a) and an annular connector and fitted over them which has parallel channels (6a - 6d). These fill with nutrient by capillary action and the spermatozoa swim down them from the annular trough to the central receptacle. An Independent claim is included for a method for isolating spermatozoa from ejaculate using the apparatus.
