The transformer (13) produces a frequency domain signal by transforming the input signal to the frequency domain. Connected to the transformer is a spectral subtractor (25) for producing a disturbance-reduced signal by reduction of disturbance in the frequency domain signal using spectral subtraction. The device incorporates a variance reducer (15) for production od a variance reduced signal by processing the input signal. The variance reducer is connected to the subtractor. The subtractor uses a number of signals, which include the variance reduced signal. A block sampling component (11) receives the input signal and produces a sampled, main block signal. The block sampling component is connected to the transformer, which receives the main block signal as an input signal.
