PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side trimming control method whereby change in the width of a strip (steel plate) can be made by cutting with a side trimmer continuously without stopping a processing line. SOLUTION: The processing line on which strips having different widths and joined one after another run is put in operation, and for changing the trimming width, the revolving speed within a horizontal plane of a housing of the side trimmer is calculated in conformity to the specified algorithm employing a sine function with the distance from the start to the end of width changing used as parameter, and the moving speed of the housing in the strip width direction is calculated in conformity to the specified algorithm with the strip moving speed and the width direction moving speed of the housing used as parameters, so that the cutting angle of a rotary cutter is directed tangential to the cutting line, and the housing is revolved at the mentioned moving speed and revolving speed, and moved in the strip width direction whereby the strips are cut while the position of the rotary cutter in the strip width direction and the cutting angle are changed step by step.
