PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an LP steel sheet having thickness most close to the nominal thickness of an ordered LP steel sheet by accurately deciding the position for picking the ordered LP steel sheet from a material to be rolled. SOLUTION: In this method, by deciding the margin range for picking the ordered LP steel sheet from the material to be rolled is decided from the length of a product picking effective range and the length of the ordered LP steel sheet, furthermore, measuring thicknesses in plural positions in the longitudinal direction of the steel sheet in the product picking effective range and detecting a position where the thickness in each measuring point falls in the tolerance of the nominal thickness of the ordered LP steel sheet and the difference between the measured thickness and the nominal thickness of the ordered LP steel sheet is minimized, this detected position is decided as the product picking position of the ordered LP steel sheet.
