Class 100(2) An engraving table 1 carrying a printing forme 4 is movable in the direction of scanning by a reversible hydraulic piston 6 or by a nut and reversible spindle, and the movement is translated to a scanning table 14 carrying the original 17 by means of a lever 18, slide 28 and lever 19. The levers 18, 19 are pivoted to the machine frame at 20, 21 and the slide is constrained against vertical motion by anti-friction bearings 29 and is connected to the levers by pins 33, 34 adjustable in height along slots 26, 27 in the levers and slots 31, 32 in the slide and clamped in adjusted position on the slide by clamping levers 35, 36, pointers 39, 40 on the pins cooperating with scales 37, 38. The setting of the pins determines the reproduction ratio in the direction of scanning. A photoelectric scanning head 50 and an engraving head 44, having a tool 45 whose depth of cut is controlled by the scanning head, are connected by pins 53, 54 to a lever 51 pivoted on a pin 58 which is adjustable along a slot 57 in the bar 51 and along a fixed bar 60 having a scale 61 co-operating with a pointer 62 secured to the pin 58. The head 44 is movable in a feed direction perpendicular to the scanning direction, to position the two heads for scanning and engraving the next line, by the rotation of a screw 49, and motion of the head 44 through the arm 51 causes motion of the head 50 in the opposite direction, the setting of the pin 58 determining the reproduction ratio in the feed direction. The pins 25, 54 are respectively adjustable with respect to the table 14 and head 44 to allow adjustment of initial relative settings of the tables and of the heads, or the pins 24, 53 may be adjustable. To allow for the necessary sliding of the levers 18, 19, 51 as they pivot, slots 22, 23, 52 are provided, together with the slots 26, 27. Alternatively, slots can be provided at the opposite ends of the levers and fixed pivots replace the slots shown, or slots can be provided at both ends of the levers, and the intermediate slots replaced by fixed pivots. |
