PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cobalt type nitrile hydratase having cysteinesulfinic acid and cysteinesulfenic acid in the active center. SOLUTION: This cobalt type nitrile hydratase comprises a subunit bound through a region represented by an amino acid sequence Cys-Thr-Leu-Csi-Ser-Cse described in sequence number 1 of the sequence listing (refer to the specification) to a cobalt atom as a constituent element (Csi in the sequence denotes the cysteinesulfinic acid; and Cse denotes the cysteinesulfenic acid in the sequence).
