Production of organic compounds with at least one nitrile function by reaction of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) with an ethylenically unsaturated organic compound in the presence of a catalyst comprising nickel (Ni), platinum (Pt) or palladium (Pd) and an organophosphorus ligand. The reaction is effected in the presence of an ionic medium which is liquid at the reaction temperature.
