The anchoring system, especially for a plate (4) with a post (2) supporting a sign or lighting unit, consists of two or more blocks (3) of a resistant material e.g. a synthetic substance with a mineral filling, each containing a retaining element in the form of a washer, especially of metal, with a hole through it, and a tubular spike (5) for each block. Each spike is driven into the ground through holes (15, 7) in the plate (4) and a block. Inside the block the spike passes through the metal washer, which grips it and prevents its withdrawal. Additional anchoring strength is provided by rods driven through the spike to emerge in curves from holes near its tip.
