Compression joint for a multi-layer metal and plastic pipe (2), has an outer shell (5) of a cuprous material such as copper, bronze or brass, having an internal diameter corresponding to the external diameter of the pipe, and a rigid inner sleeve (9) with a notched section (10) to engage with the pipe, and a second section (12) engaging with the shell. The compression joint, e.g. for a multi-layer metal and plastic pipe (2), has an outer shell (5) of a cuprous material such as copper, bronze or brass, having an internal diameter corresponding to the external diameter of the pipe, and a rigid inner sleeve (9) with a notched section (10) to engage with the pipe, and a second section (12) engaging with the shell. The inner sleeve can be of a synthetic material or metal, and the two sections have grooves (15, 17) for seals (16, 18). The joint also contains a washer (19) of an insulating material.
