The procedure for identification of an individual includes reading the first field (2A) on an identity card (1). This is processed and compared with a database in order to provide a list of selected names. This process is repeated with a second and possibly a third field in order to narrow the list of possible names to a single identification. The procedure for identification of an individual includes reading an identity card (1) which includes a number of identifier fields (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D). At least the first field (2A) is read and from amongst the characters recognized, the least well known characters are eliminated to obtain a truncated identifier. Within an database itemized for each individual a search is made for all the truncated identifiers which match, in order to provide a list of selected names. Using the second identifier field the process is repeated in order to produce a second identifier. A search is then made through the previously selected list in order to narrow the choice. If the choice is unique, then the process is stopped, but if there is more than one possible choice the process is repeated using the third field.
|
