A method of correcting the refractive error in a cornea of an eye, including forming a flap (18) in the surface of the cornea (12), and moving the flap to expose first and second internal surfaces (32, 34) of the cornea. An implant (20) is positioned adjacent the first internal surface, at least a portion of the implant having refractive properties and held adjacent the first internal surface using a tool. At least a portion of the implant is ablated with a light emitting device (24), when the implant is positioned on the first exposed surface of the cornea and being held by the instrument (22). The flap is then repositioned over the implant. |
