A die fitting system which eliminates mixing of dies and mountings has a simple coding process in which the shaft of a die is fitted into a corresponding sleeve for mounting into a cylindrical bore in the press. The shaft of each die is provided with an individual groove pattern which matches the profiled inner bore of the mounting sleeve. The one end of the sleeve is shaped to fit into the chamfered end of the die shaft under the die head.
