A process for the production of conjugated, bridged and directly linked phenothiazine oligomers and copolymers of formula (I) comprises reaction of a phenothiazinyl boric acid and/or bis boric acid and/or bis boric acid ester of formula (II) and a compound of formula (III). X-A-X (III) R<1>, R<2> = H, any functional group, (optionally substituted) aromatic, (non-)aromatic heterocycle, conjugated and carbocyclic and heterocyclic annelated compound, alkene, alkyne, metal complex and/or corresponding derivative; R<3> in (II) = H, alkyl group or bridge, aryl group or bridge or heteroaryl group or bridge; A = optionally substituted (hetero)aromatic or metal complex; X = leaving group. (R<3> and R<4> in (I) are not defined). An Independent claim is also included for preparation of phenothiazinyl boric acids and/or esters of formula (II) by reaction of a halophenothiazine of formula (IV) and a boric acid of formula (V) or (VI).
