摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CPP type magnetism detection element that can ensure electrical insulation on both side surfaces of a multilayer film having a magnetic resistance effect. SOLUTION: A pair of insulation material layers 30 and 30 are formed opposite to side end surfaces T1s and T1s of a multilayer film T1. The insulation material layers 30 and 30 are provided on a lower electrode layer 22, so that, when the multilayer T1 is subject to grinding formation by ion milling, re- adhesion of material in each layer comprising the multilayer to the side end surfaces T1s and T1s in the widthwise direction of track of the multilayer T1 can be suppressed. Once the quantity of re-adhesion of material in each layer comprising the multilayer T1 with conductivity can be reduced, electrical insulation between a free magnetic layer 2 and a fixed magnetic layer 25 is easily ensured to allow a magnetism detection element to demonstrate magnetic field detection capability, thereby improving the quality of the magnetism detection element to be formed.
