Articulated arm awning (1) comprises at least two articulated arms (4) fixed to a wall so that they pivot about a vertical axis. The arms have two articulated arm sections (5, 6) whose free outer ends are connected via a profile (8) to an awning material (10) pulled out from a shaft (12). At least one outer bearing bracket (2) pivots downward about a horizontal axis against a defined resistance on pressure caused by rainwater on the upper side of the awning material. Independent claims are also included for alternative articulated arm awnings. Preferred Features: The awning is provided with a device restricting the pivoting angle, preferably a stop, and a pivoting resistance and damping device, preferably a spring arrangement consisting of a torsion spring, helical spring or gas spring arrangement.
