APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ESTIMATING MOTION USING WEIGHT

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for estimating motion using weight are provided to increase compression efficiency in Huffman coding without deterioration of picture quality by changing an SAD formula. CONSTITUTION: A previous image buffer(30) stores previous image data. A current image buffer(31) stores data of a current image block. A plurality of processing elements(35) obtain differences between the data of the current image block and the previous image data of a selected search area. An SAD(Sum of Absolute Difference) multiplexer(33) outputs an SAD value obtained by adding absolute values of the differences input in order. An adder(36) adds weight to the output of the SAD multiplexer. A comparator(34) outputs the optimum motion vector, which is the smallest value in the values output from the adder. A controller(32) provides the weight to the adder and controls the SAD multiplexer and the comparator.
