Electrostatic spraying installations

An electrostatic spraying installation as claimed in the parent Specification in which the spraying container 1 has a spraying edge or slot 2 and in which electrodes 5, 6 are provided to influence the spray, has at at least one side of the edge or slot 2 an electrode 5, 6 movably mounted and associated with a cam way 8, 9. Springs 12, 13 keep rollers 10, 11 on the electrodes 5, 6 against the cam ways, the electrodes being supported by a yoke attached to the container 1 which is mounted for vertical reciprocatory motion. The electrodes 5, 6 may be at the potential of the container 1. The cams, which are fixed, ensure that the electrodes 5, 6 move in front of the edge 2 to prevent spraying when, for example, an opening in a part of an article 3, comes opposite the edge 2. The article 3 may be moved horizontally by a conveyer, in which case the cams 8, 9 must be replaced by cams shaped to move the electrodes 5, 6 as required for any change in the surface configuration of the article being sprayed for each up and down movement of the container 1. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) each electrode is divided into sections each having its own cam, which may be a separate disc, on part of a single roller, and the container 1 remains stationary, the article passing vertically in front of the apparatus, and the cams rotating in synchronism with the movement of the article. Movement of the container 1 in the first embodiment, or of the cams in the second, may be initiated photo-electrically by movement of the article.
