<p>This invention relates to 9-hydroxy-furo-[3,2-q] chromen-7-one which exhibits anti-cancer and anti-proliferative activity. Preferably, this compound is extracted from Aegle marmelos, a plant belonging to Rutacea family and found in the Indian subcontinent. The powdered plant material is subjected to conventional solvent extraction, preferably using silica gel column chromatography. Fraction eluted with a mixture of ethyl acetate and hexane contained the title compound which may be further purified. Anti-cancer and anti-proliferative action of 9-hydroxy-furo-[3,2-q] chromen-7-one were assayed in a conventional manner.</p> |
