摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce medium noise and to improve a high C/Nmedia characteristic by controlling the fine projections on the surface of a magnetic layer. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium which performs reproducing on one main surface of a nonmagnetic base by an MR head or GMR head regulated in coercive force to >=80 to <=180 kA/m is formed in such a manner that the relation 100 nm>=ϕh/2 >=40 nm holds at 99% of the fine projections having a height of >=10 nm when the height of the fine projections formed on the extreme surface of the magnetic layer is defined as h and the diameter of the fine projections at the height h/2 half that asϕh/2 nm.
