PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging apparatus, which can excellently form an obtained image even when the degrees of freedom of strict exposure control and exposure timing are improved, and its control method. SOLUTION: A solid-state imaging device 14c of a digital camera 10 reads signal electric charges before exposure out of a photodetecting element 140 hatched by picking up a moving picture as unnecessary electric charges to a vertical transfer CCD 144 through a field shift gate 142 to start exposure, performs vertical transfer without mixing them with other signal electric charges, reads signal electric charges obtained after the exposure ends to the vertical transfer CCD 144 and vertically transfers them to a horizontal transfer CCD 146 one after another, supplies horizontal drain gate pulses 162b to a horizontal drain gate 148 to discharge unnecessary electric charges from the horizontal transfer CCD 146 to a horizontal drain 150 through a horizontal drain gate 148, and supplies a horizontal driving signal 162a to the horizontal transfer CCD 146 to read signal electric charges obtained by the exposure by horizontal transfer.
