PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily form a fluorescent layer by forming the fluorescent layer on a support member separate from a tubular case of a gas discharge tube, and to prevent pollution of the discharge gas with the residue after the burning of the fluorescent slurry by burning and forming the fluorescent layer outside the tubular case. SOLUTION: In the gas discharge tube having the fluorescent layer inside the tubular case forming a discharge space, the fluorescent layer is formed in the support member independent from the tubular case. By inserting the support member into the tubular case, the gas discharge tube is disposed inside the discharge space.
