Method for joining fiber-reinforced plastic sheet to backing component comprises using a plunger to press fibers and matrix through a bore in the backing component; and forming a fastening on opposite side using counter plunger(10) placed on other side of backing component. The backing component and fiber-reinforced plastic component lie in planar configuration against each other. The plunger has a projection on its head, which is about the thickness of the components being joined. Its contours (12) form the head of the rivet-like composite fastening. The fastening head projects beyond the bore. It includes a cavity on its centerline. This is closed by a length of thermoplastic thread and/or reinforcing fibers. Independent claims are included for: (1) A plunger; (2) A counter plunger, and (3) The fastening produced using the method.
