A skip mounted on a carriage of a ropeway or like overhead carrier comprises two parts pivoted together and connected to the carriage in such manner that the two parts may swing to a closed position when empty and to the open position when loaded, means being provided to lock the two parts together in the closed position. In Fig. 2, the skip comprises two halves 10, 11 pivoted together about an axis 13 and suspended by chains 17 from a carriage 16. A latch 18 locks the two halves in a closed position and may be released by engaging a ramp in its path of travel. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, two halves 20, 21 are provided with uprights 22, 23 pivotally connected to a member 24 supported on the carriage 25. |
