A method of protecting a substantially horizontal surface includes the steps of supplying a liquid impermeable film wherein the film carries an electric charge and trimming the film to a desired size. The trimmed film is applied to the substantially horizontal surface such that the film is retained thereon by the electric charge carried by the film and an object is placed on the trimm ed film.
