PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute an integer multiplication operation using multimedia basic commands. SOLUTION: In this method and device, integer multiplication operation is executed to data stored in an integer register file using multimedia basic commands which act related to smaller operands. Multiplication operation is executed to a series of smaller operands to generate partial products, and the partial products are added to execute multiplication operation to 32-bit or 64-bit values. A data operation command is used to change a position of a 16-bit segment of a 32-bit operand to a position where partial products can be computed by a multimedia parallel multiplication command, and the partial products are added to form a result. |
