PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile communication system that can detect a network to be connected to an opposite communication device and surely conduct communication without causing errors. SOLUTION: In the system comprising a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) interface means, an IP network interface means, an Internet facsimile communication means in compliance with the ITU-T recommendations T.38, an adaptor 1 having analog ports for connection to a facsimile machine, and the facsimile machine 2 connected to the analog ports, the system can recognize whether the adaptor 1 transmits a signal for notifying a connected network or the facsimile machine 2 is connected to an opposite station via the PSTN or the IP network depending on the result of network selection by itself, and when the facsimile machine 2 recognizes the connection to the opposite station via the IP network, the facsimile machine 2 conducts particular facsimile communication by estimating a signal delay in the IP network.
