<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a checkout system and method convertible between an assisted checkout mode and a non-assisted checkout mode. SOLUTION: The checkout system includes a checkout station 32 having a movable scanner 36 and a movable display 34 each of which are selectively positionable to accommodate assisted checkout setting and non-assisted checkout setting. The checkout station also includes a customer bag well 39 in the case of being in the non-assisted checkout mode, a cashier bag well 33 in the case that the checkout station is in the assisted checkout mode, a merchandise placement or upload area, a payment module, and a walk through basket table, shelf 38 or the like. A plurality of the checkout stations are positioned or angled into a modified serial (staggered skew) configuration and are scalable.</p> |
