PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader with a small sized hinge. SOLUTION: The hinge comprises a base 50a locked to an original cover 60 and a rod member 50b pivotally supported to the base 50a in a freely rocking manner. A main body 12 locks an end of a rod member 50b remoter from a rock shaft A. A base end of an elastic part 51 is connected to the base 50a and when the original cover 60 is rocked from a fully open position to a fully closed position, the tip of the elastic part is depressed by the end of the rod member near the rock shaft A so that the elastic part 51 is elastically deformed in a direction parted from the rock shaft A. The elastic force of the elastic part 51 keeps the original cover 60 at its fully opened position.
