THE M30 GENE FAMILY AND THE UTILIZATION THEREOF

The invention relates to, among other things, a method for diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases. According to the invention, the concentration of a protein, which shares similarities with the protein Pellino, or of a mammal homologue of this protein or of a mutein of this protein, which, over a domain of 50 amino acids of the amino sequence thereof, shares a sequence identity of over 60 % with one of the sequences, is determined in a body sample. The invention also relates to the utilization of ligands, which bind to M30 and to the homologues thereof, and to the utilization of functional inhibitors for producing a medicament for treating neurodegenerative diseases. The invention additionally relates to a screening method for identifying and/or characterizing functional inhibitors and/or ligands of M30 or of a homologue of M30.
