A positive tool core(12) is used to preform a leather facing layer(14) and then transfer the layer into a complementary lower half of a tool for foaming onto the rear face of the leather. An edge clamp(16) semi-permanently connected to the core grips an edge strip(18) of the leather projecting beyond the tool core and in the foaming tool a recess supports the transferred edge clamp near the tool parting plane. An Independent claim is made for a process for producing leather-faced plastic components in which a projecting edge strip(18) of the leather(14) is gripped and sealed by an edge clamp(16), transferred to a foaming tool and the core(12) detached from the edge clamp and removed from the tool leaving the leather and clamp in position.
