Selective use of lubricants when cold-rolling metal strip, employs emulsion for relatively-large reductions and rolling oil for smaller, finishing reductions

For the first pass of the strip through the tandem rolling line, an emulsion is used as coolant and lubricant, for a relatively great reduction in cross section. The emulsion is squeezed-off the strip as it emerges from the roller gap. For later passes through the line, with relatively small reduction, rolling oil is employed as the lubricant. An Independent claim is included for corresponding plant.
