PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal transmission system conforming to the DVI standards capable of transmitting closed caption and teletext together with a video signal and also transmitting a control signal for controlling a host. SOLUTION: In a base band video transmission system (BTS1) for transmitting a video signal (SV) in a base band confirming to the DVI standards, a transmission apparatus (100) multiplexes a data signal (SD) expressing other than video and generates a DVI signal (Sdvi) during blanking periods (VBP, HBP) of at least one (SR) of component video signals (SB, SG, SR) of the video signal (SV). A reception apparatus (104) receives the DVI signal (Sdvi) and extracts the data signal (SD) from the DVI signal (Sdvi) received.
