<p>The invention relates to compositions and methods for the screening of molecules that are used to prevent or treat metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases and/or atherosclerosis. In particular, the invention relates to methods and kits for screening compounds based on determining the effect of test compounds on the activity of a novel protein which is similar to apolipoprotein AIV. The invention also relates to compositions and methods for reducing the concentration of triglycerides and/or reducing the concentration or the expression of apolipoprotein CIII (apo CIII) and/or reducing the concentration of VLDL and/or increasing the activity of LpL and/or of HL and/or increasing reverse cholesterol transport.</p> |
