The plastic material is a foamed or hollow chambered sheet with outer facing layers covered on both faces by film layers. Straight grooves are pressed into the sheet so that a plastic hinge(4,5) is formed. Adhesive(8) is applied to areas(6,7) of one or both film layers outside the hinges. An Independent claim is made for a process for manufacturing an edge protection strip in which a foamed or hollow chambered strip is extruded and then passed through a narrow gap between the wedge-shaped profiles of two axially parallel grooving discs(20,22) to produce hinge-forming grooves. Gap width is approximately the thickness of the two facing layers. Adhesive coatings are covered by a removable protective film(9). Adhesive coated areas lie between a plastic hinge and the side strip edge and are folded with the protective film around the hinge onto the film layer. Film areas in contact with the adhesive are coated with an anti-adhesion material. The edge protection strip with folded over side edges is either rolled up or stacked in a protective film.
