An arrayed waveguide (4) is connected to input optical waveguide (2) through a slab waveguide (3). A slider (17) causes relative motion between portions (3a,3b) of the slab waveguide along an intersecting face (8), based on temperature change, to compensate difference between target center wavelength and measured center wavelength of optical transmission, before separation of portions of the slab waveguide. An Independent claim is also included for arrayed waveguide grating optical multiplexer/demultiplexer manufacturing method.
