SOLUTION: A corresponding color that can be reproduced by an output device and a permissible variation are held about each color of representative colors, evaluation quantity is calculated from the deviated amount of colorimetry results of a patch outputted from the output device corresponding to the representative colors from the corresponding color and a permissible area, and whether or not to update characteristic information of the device is decided on the basis of evaluation quantity with respect to a plurality of the representative amounts.
