PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce encoding of a useless cleanup pass and to improve encoding efficiency in a coefficient bit modeling part of a JPEG 2000 encoding device. SOLUTION: In steps S104 and S105, a significance propagation pass and a magnitude refinement pass are respectively encoded. In a step S106, an ALL- CLEAN flag is checked. In the case the ALL- CLEAN flag is true, which means that all coefficients have been encoded in either step S104 or S105, and that a cleanup pass can be omitted, therefore, a step S107 is skipped to return to a step S102, and advance is made to the next bit plane. In the step S106, if the ALL- CLEAN is false, which shows that there is a coefficient to be an encoding object of a cleanup pass, advance is made to the step S107 to encode the cleanup pass. |
