A support for a fishing rod comprising: (a) a first portion (11) adapted to be located at a proximal end of a fishing rod (b) and a second portion (14) pivotally connected (at 13) to the first portion (11) and adapted to move from a first position where it is aligned with the shaft of the fishing rod to a second position where it is substantially at right angles to the shaft wherein the first portion (11) includes an inner core portion (15) and the second portion (14) includes a sleeve portion which is adapted to fit over the inner core portion (15) such that the outer edge portions of the sleeve portion engage with the inner core portion (15) to retain the second portion (14) in the first position (11).
