WAVEGUIDE TYPE OPTICAL COMPONENT AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new waveguide type optical component which is greatly reducible in power consumption as compared with conventional ones and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A waveguide type optical component which has an optical waveguide (s) composed of a core 2 and a clad 3 covering the core 2 on a substrate 1 and a thin-film heater 4 on the surface of the optical waveguide (s) is equipped with a groove 5 for heat insulation on the surface of the optical waveguide and equipped with many gap holes 6 below the optical waveguide core 2 equipped with the thin-film heater 4. Consequently, heat generated by the thin-film heater 4 becomes hard to radiate to the circumference, so the power consumption for making the thin-film heater 4 generate heat is greatly reducible.
