PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer in which unevenness of density can be corrected rationally. SOLUTION: Prior to recording an image of one color, temperature of a thermal head 5 and the environmental temperature thereof are measured and then the correction amountΔEp of thermal energy being generated from a heating element 6 is calculated depending on these temperatures. A smallest line recording period T allowing recording by conducting the heating element for a conduction time corrected to correct unevenness of density while satisfying a conditional formula including the correction amountΔEp is then determined. At the time of recording, conduction time of the heating element 6 subjected to temperature correction and heat storage correction depending on the head temperature and the environmental temperature is employed and recording is performed line by line at a determined line recording period T.
