PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the rational cylinder block technology capable of lightening a cylinder block itself while preventing the deformation of the cylinder block. SOLUTION: A main body part 110 of the cylinder block 100 is provided with a cylinder bore 120, a water jacket 130 and the like. The water jacket 130 is defined by side partitions 140, 150 in the direction orthogonal to the major axial direction of the cylinder bore 120. The side partition 140 has a thick part 142 at its upper side, and a thin part 144 thinner than the thick part 140 at its lower side. The deformation of the cylinder bore 120 (side partition 140) is calculated on the basis of an analysis method such as a finite element method analysis and the like, and a range, the thinning amount and the like of the thin part 144 is accurately determined on the basis of the deformation, whereby the cylinder block 100 itself is made less heavy while preventing the deformation of the cylinder bore 120.
