PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake device of an engine for a planing boat having a simple and inexpensive constitution, and capable of completely cutting off the water intruding into the engine in upturning the boat. SOLUTION: A valve element 17 is abutted on a rear face 16a of a projecting seat 16 at its flange 17a, and retained in a state of being suspended from an air inlet 3a as shown in Fig. 2, when the planing boat planes in a normal condition, on the other hand, when the boat is upturned, an air cleaner 3 is reversed as the engine 2 is reversed, the valve element 17 is moved in a state of being guided by a side face 16c of the projecting seat 16 in the direction to be immersed in the air cleaner 3 at its cylindrical body 17c (and flange part 16a) by the action of gravity, and the flange 17b is abutted on a surface 16b of the projecting seat 16 so that the surface 16b of the projecting seat 16 and a seal face of the flange 17b are closely kept into contact with each other, and the air inlet 3a is closed.
