PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin for an adhesive having good solubility in a general-purpose solvent, excellent in heat resistance and adhesive properties and free from the problems of a biodegradable adhesive. SOLUTION: The polyester resin for an adhesive contains at least 60 mass% of a polylactic acid having a molar ratio of L-lactic acid to D-lactic acid (L/D) of 0.1-9, an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-2.2, a softening point of at least 70 deg.C and a weight-average molecular weight to number-average molecular weight ratio (Mw/Mn) of less than 3.0. Preferably, the polyester resin for an adhesive contains 0.1-30 mass% of a lactic acid oligomer and/or a lactide oligomer.
