PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article piling up device capable of accurately detecting the position of shelves installed in multiple stages and preventing wiring for detecting the position of the shelves from becoming complicated, lifting control of articles and conveying control of articles from becoming complicated, and articles carried into or out of a frame body from being damaged. SOLUTION: This article piling up device comprises an outer frame 2, a conveying means 3 for carrying articles into or out of the outer frame 2, a plurality stages of shelf means 4 capable of conveying the articles onto or from the conveying means 3 when vertically passing through a clearance between the conveying means 3 and the outer frame 2, a lifting means 5 for raising or lowering the plurality stages of shelf means 4 at intervals, a detection means 6 for detecting that the shelf means 4 positioned just above the conveying means 3 reaches a height position not interfered with the articles conveyed by the conveying means 3, and a stop means 5b for raising or lowering the shelf means 4 according to the detected results of the detection means 6.
