PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a PPS film capable of forming a highly reliable film capacitor which has excellent electrical characteristics of PPS and nonetheless is excellent in self-recoverability when a local voltage breakdown occurs, and a capacitor prepared therefrom. SOLUTION: There are provided a polyphenylenesulfide film, which evolves gaseous hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide in an amount of less than 2×10<-4> mol/mol polymer or less at 300 deg.C in an atmospheric air atmosphere, a method for manufacturing the polyphenylenesulfide film, which feeds a polyphenylenesulfide resin to an extruder under the condition of an oxygen partial pressure of lower than 1,000 Pa, followed by melting and extrusion, and a capacitor formed by winding or laminating a metallized polyphenylenesulfide film which is prepared by forming a metallic film on at least one side of the polyphenylenesulfide film.
