PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member capable of providing a low coefficient of friction when used in low viscosity lubricating oil. SOLUTION: This sliding member for sliding in lubricating oil with low viscosity has a base body with a number of pores on a sliding surface and lubricating oil with high viscosity at least retained in the pores and exposed on the sliding surface and incompatible with the lubricating oil with low viscosity. When sliding with a mating member under low contact pressure, the sliding member slides by fluid lubrication of lubricating oil with low viscosity. When sliding under high contact pressure, an oil film of lubricating oil with high viscosity can be formed at the contacting part of the sliding member and the mating member and an oil film of lubricating oil with low viscosity can be formed on parts except for the contacting part because the lubricating oil with high viscosity incompatible with the lubricating oil with low viscosity is retained in pores and exposed on the sliding surface. As a result, low coefficient of friction and high abrasive resistance can be obtained. |
