FRONT AND REAR WHEEL DRIVE UNIT FOR VEHICLE, AND CLUTCH SHIFTING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front and rear wheel drive unit for a vehicle, and a clutch shifting method, capable of composing a whole device compact and light by composing a transmission to be speed-changeable by a single actuator. SOLUTION: Change-over clutch discs 34 and 53 for a lock-up clutch 30 and a speed increasing clutch 50 are disposed in two stages in a radial direction having a mover 46 movable in an axial direction of an input shaft 19 between them. A carrier 61 and the mover 46 are engaged with each other to be incapable of relative rotation, and the change-over clutch discs 34 and 53 are engaged with clutch discs 32 and 52 disposed on the input shaft 19 and a casing B. A disc spring 48 and an electromagnetic actuator are disposed in such a way that respective actuation directions face each other. The disc spring 48 is energized to constantly set the lock-up clutch 30 engaged, and the electromagnetic actuator sets the clutch 50 engaged after releasing engagement of the lock-up clutch 30.
