PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save manpower in manufacturing a Faraday rotor for an optical isolator of a small size below 3 mm×3 mm. SOLUTION: In the case the Faraday rotor of a size below 3 mm on one side is manufactured by cutting a bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet single crystal film, the inspection of internal defects by an IR microscope and the measurement of insertion loss, Faraday rotating angle and extinction ratio are performed relating to a planned area where the Faraday rotor of the size below 3 mm on one side is formed and after the area where prescribed specifications are not satisfied is specified, the antireflection film on the above area is subjected to marking by a laser. Next the bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet single crystal film is cut to <=3 mm×3 mm and thereafter nondefective articles and defective articles are sorted. Accordingly, the nondefective articles and the defective articles can be easily judged by visually recognizing the marking on the surfaces. The time for putting the Faraday rotor for the optical isolator of the size below 3 mm into and out of sample holders is drastically shortened.
|
